While I did not work on the Apollo Program, I did spend six years on a contract with the NASA. Beginning as a technician, I worked my way up to crew chief, Operations Controller, and finally, Maintenance & Operations Manager on the Spacecraft Tracking and Data (Acquisition) Network, working on Ascension Island and Quito, Ecuador. Following those assignments, I worked in Bermuda and Dakar, Senegal on the Space Shuttle Program. While I did not know the astronauts featured in the following podcast, I do have a certificate on my office wall, thanking me for my efforts on STS-3 — the third shuttle mission. It is signed by astronauts Jack Lousma and C. Gordon Fullerton. I have also had the honor of working with Sally Ride (first American woman in space) and Kathryn Sullivan (first American to walk in space).
The following is from the VOA of Voice of America and is spoken slowly.
