What It Takes – Maya Angelou
What It Takes is a podcast of conversations with well-known people in almost every field. The interviews have been recorded over the past 25 years by the American Academy of Achievement. They offer life stories of people who have had a huge impact on the world. They offer insights you can apply to your own life.
Listen to these audio files, in their entirety. They are just over 30 minutes long, each, so make sure that you have the time. Don’t take notes. Just listen. Then close this page, and come back to it after 1-2 days. Listen to them, again. This time, you can stop the audio, relisten to parts, and make notes.
Finally, write Maya Angelou’s story, in your own words. Your story should be between 500 and 1,000 words. Do not use any of the sentences from the audio file. If you quote someone, be sure to use quotation marks and identify the speaker.
In addition to the text that you write, make a list of all the speakers in the podcasts. Put this list at the end of your story.
Try to write the best summary of Maya Angelou’s life, but getting the story accurate is more important than grammar, punction, or spelling for this exercise.
